For The Record

I'm Kameryn. I love music. There is nothing more fun than discovering new music and then sharing it with other people.

Upcoming Concerts: May 27th-June 2nd

There are SO many great artist coming to Denver this week, I wish I could make it to every show.

Monday May 28th:

  • Of Monsters and Men will be playing a sold out show at the Ogden. The band, originally from Iceland became famous this year after they released their debut album, My Head is an Animal. Some of their most popular songs are Little Talks and Dirty Paws but my favorite song from this band is Mountain Sound.

Tuesday May 29th:

  • The Shins, The Head and the Heart and Blind Pilot will be playing at Red Rocks. This is a show I have been waiting to see since I bought my ticket in February and I could not be happier with all three of the bands. Since I have seen both The Shins and Head and the Heart already, I am most looking forward to hear The Shins perform songs from their latest album, Port of Morrow. I also can’t wait to see if Blind Pilot lives up to my expectations!
  • Santigold will be playing at the Ogden. After the release of her latest album, Master of Make-Believe, I have no doubt it will be a great show.
  • Blizten Trapper will be playing at Bluebird! If I was not going to be at Red Rocks already, I would definitely have gone to see this show. Blitzen Trapper has been around for over 10 years and they continue to succeed. My favorite songs are Furr and Saturday Nite.

Thursday May 31st:

  • Bon Iver will be playing at Red Rocks. I’ve seen Bon Iver in a big concert hall and although I won’t be at this show, I am curious to see what it will be like at Red Rocks. My favorite part of Bon Iver concerts is when he gets with his entire band and performs Skinny Love towards the end of his set list. Hopefully, he will do the same thing because the combination of Bon Iver performing Skinny Love at a venue like Red Rocks will be absolutely surreal.
Sasquatch starts today and while everyone else will be enjoying their Memorial Day weekend filled with friends and great music at the Gorge, I am stuck in school. Although other music festivals are located in cool places, it seems like nothing can compare to the Gorge so I am hoping to make it to Sasquatch at some point in my life! I posted pictures from Sasquatch last year because my best friend went and she is there as we speak.
This years lineup features Jack White, Bon Iver, the Shins and Beck but if I were there I would make sure to see Gold Leaves, Alabama Shakes, Blitzen Trapper, Metric and Kurt Vile.

NPR Interview with Randall Poster

Picking soundtracks for movies has always been my dream job. Luckily, there are people like Randall Poster who I can live vicariously through. Poster is one of the most well-known Music Supervisors in the industry. He is known for his collaboration with film-maker Wes Anderson who’s directed The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic, Rushmore and The Darjeeling Limited as well as Anderson’s latest movie, Moonrise Kingdom which comes out tomorrow. Poster and Anderson worked together to pick the soundtracks for these movies. To find any of the songs from these movies check out this website.

“I would say Cat Stevens’ “Here Comes My Baby” in Rushmore is a song that I’m really happy that we were able to bring to a film audience. Up to that point, Cat Stevens had stopped licensing his music, and we had “Here Comes My Baby” and “The Wind” in Rushmore, and I was really pleased we were able to make that work out and make him comfortable. That was the first time he allowed his music to be used in a film in many years. … I think it’s one of those iconic Wes Anderson cinematic moments that I think will thrill people forever.”

Arctic Monkeys

—Mardy Bum

A little Arctic Monkey’s to get me through the day. Happy Thursday!

Great picture of Of Monsters and Men performing at SXSW back in March. The band will be performing at the Ogden Theater in Denver next Wednesday and I am hoping to make it to the show.

Hands down two of my favorite Head and the Heart songs. The first one is Cats and Dogs and the second is Couer d’Alene from their debut album The Head and the Heart. They are amazing live and I am so lucky I get to see them play for the second time next Tuesday with The Shins and Blind Pilot at Red Rocks!

Trampled by Turtles - “Wait So Long” from the album ‘Palomino’, www.trampledbyturtles.com

Trampled by Turtles are playing a sold out show tonight at the Ogden Theater . I saw them at Snowball Music Festival back in March and wish I was seeing them tonight. They were great at Snowball, but I have a feeling they will be even better tonight because the Ogden is the perfect venue for a band like them. I’ll post a concert review from Westword later this weekend!

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Interview with SPIN Magazine

“I think we’ve learned how to allow the songs to breathe. On the first album, production-wise, every moment felt like an event. We didn’t feel pressure to do that again. We eased off, and let the events that do happen [on the record] become more memorable and important as a result. But it’s funny to know that there is another album we recorded at the same time as Here that’s wilder and more psychedelic. Hopefully that will come out later this year.”

-an excerpt from Alex Ebert, lead singer of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros about their new album Here out May 29th.

Beach House’s fourth album, Bloom, is unquestionably a Beach House record, and one that on the surface feels more like a continuation than the product of evolution. That is, until you go back and hear how far this band has truly come.
